ASUS Plans to Launch WP8 Mobile Phone
Jan 18, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) --
To launch Windows Phone 8-based mobile phones, ASUS is negotiating with Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) over authorization, according to Benson Lin, vice president of ASUS' mobile communication product division.
Lin said that ASUS had brought up an idea to Microsoft that it intended to launch WP8-version Padfone (a shape-changing mobile phone). The notion of Padfone-an integration of mobile phone and PC-is meaningful to WP8, added Lin. Though a timetable has not been made, ASUS is interested in developing WP8-based mobile phones. Microsoft's spokesperson in Taiwan declined to comment on the negotiation of both sides.
Lin also said that ASUS was negotiating with US' operators in the hope of launching mobile phones in the country next year, according to foreign media.
