Microsoft’s (News - Alert) major product in the content workspace market will now be available as SharePoint Server 2010, along with Microsoft Office 2010 in November 2010, the company announced.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is an integrated suite of server capabilities that assists companies in improving organizational effectiveness. It provides benefits such as content management and enterprise search, accelerating shared business processes, and facilitating information-sharing across boundaries, for better business insight. It also provides the platform required for server administration, application extensibility, and interoperability.

With SharePoint Server 2010, users gain features like a new ribbon user interface, deep office integration, built-in support for rich media, new Web content management features, new SharePoint tools in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, business connectivity services, Rich APIs and support for Silverlight as well as enterprise features in SharePoint Online.

“By taming the overflow of information across systems and technologies, SharePoint enables organizations to thrive,” Microsoft Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ballmer (News - Alert), said. “SharePoint 2010 is the biggest and most important release of SharePoint to date. When paired with Microsoft Office 2010, SharePoint 2010 will transform efficiency by connecting workers across a single collaboration platform for business.”
