Microsoft News - verSonic Offering Unified Messaging Server for Microsoft Windows 7 By Vivek Naik, TMCnet Contributor
Newly announced interoperability between Microsoft’s (News - Alert) Windows 7 environment and verSonic’s IXI-UMS offering make it possible for users to now send faxes and have unified messaging capabilities without the need for installation on workstation clients.
verSonic is a manufacturer of software solutions for unified communication with unified messaging and Computer Telephony Integration or, “CTI (News - Alert)”. The interoperability was announced for the company’s so-called “Client Tools” in its Unified Messaging Server (UMS) solution. Officials with the company claim the new offering easily helps Windows 7 users to send faxes and have unified messaging, and it is a client and server software that can also be used without installation on workstation clients. IXI-UMS adds mail merge, fax and auto fax to most MS Office applications such as MS Word, Excel, and some others and has a built-in fax printer driver as well as a collect fax feature and Outlook add-ins that allow the direct selection of MS Outlook Contacts for fax- and SMS-addressing. A recent report from ScriptLogic noted that many companies are electing to cut costs or are simply concerned about the compatibility with their existing applications with the Windows 7 update. In addition the report uncovered that roughly 60 percent of participants do not have plans to deploy Windows 7, while 34 percent will have it in place by the end of 2010.
