PhoneFactor (News - Alert), a subsidiary of Microsoft and a provider of comprehensive phone-based authentication platforms, announced the availability of an authentication app for Windows Phone (News - Alert).
As indicated, this new App for Windows Phone will extend the PhoneFactor platform to include yet another option for strongly authenticating access to both on-premises and cloud applications using the phone a person already carries.
"By launching a PhoneFactor App for Windows Phone, we can now support the use of PhoneFactor authentication apps across all leading mobile platforms," Timothy Sutton, chief executive officer at PhoneFactor said in a statement.
"PhoneFactor's broad suite of phone-based methods (phone call, text, and mobile apps) allows it to address a wide range of authentication scenarios making it the solution of choice for both end users and IT administrators," Sutton added.
Users are prompted to authorize account logins and financial transactions using the PhoneFactor App on his or her Windows Phone. The App can also be used to block illicit activity and alert the company's security response team.
As indicated, the PhoneFactor App is available for Windows Phone 7 and 8 as a free download from the Windows Store and can be used when the phone is connected to either a cellular or a Wi-Fi network. Also, in offline mode, the PhoneFactor App can be used as a soft token to generate a one-time passcode for authentication.
PhoneFactor is used by thousands of organizations across virtually every industry, including Government, Health Care, Banking & Financial Services, and by organizations of all size. PhoneFactor also offers authentication apps for iOS and Android (News - Alert) devices, as well as phone call and text message options, to deliver a comprehensive authentication solution for enterprises and banks.
In another release, PhoneFactor release a new survey data regarding the vulnerability of company e-mail systems. Almost all companies are depending on e-mail when it comes to sharing files, personal information, and other details related to strategic actions. However, security of such e-mails is not really taken care of. PhoneFactor’s study reveals more facts about this.
