Microsoft News - Microsoft Reveals Windows 8 Packaging
By Tanya Palta, TMCnet Contributing Writer
Today, the Powers of Be at Microsoft (News - Alert) unveiled the packaging for its yet-to-be-released Windows 8 operating system and are indicative of Microsoft's new path. The packaging definitely has a trendy and young sensibility and the vibrant and colorful boxes reveal a multi-colored Windows logo on two distinctive backgrounds -- white for Windows 8, and black for Windows 8 Pro.
Since its first public demo in June, Windows 8 has generated a lot of curiosity among both industry insiders and consumers. The next generation of Microsoft's operating system is a complete departure from any previous versions of the Windows operating system and has been clearly designed around touchscreen devices like smartphones and tablets. In February, Microsoft released Windows 8 Consumer Preview, the beta version of Windows 8, build 8250 and on its first day of its release, Windows 8 Consumer Preview was downloaded over one million times, which is incredible.
Microsoft Windows 8 is already in its Release to Manufacturing (RTM) phase and is touted to be released around October. Those running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 will qualify to download an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $39.99 and developers working on new apps for Windows 8 will be able to download the final version of Windows 8 via an MSDN subscription.
